In the morning of 5 March 1963, prior to recording their third single From Me To You, The Beatles took part in a photography session in London. They were captured by EMI staff photographer John Dove, who had been asked to consider LP cover ideas and publicity shots. The shoot began at EMI House in Manchester Square, where they were snapped on the iron staircase outside the building. A picture of the group with producer George Martin and music publisher Dick James was also taken. They then moved to nearby Montagu Square where The Beatles posed next to a parking meter, onto which John Lennon placed his glasses.
