Ringo Starr has expressed his disgust at British jihadis in Syria being nicknamed John, Paul and Ringo. According to a former captive, the Islamic State terrorists were given the nicknames by hostages taken in Syria, due to their British accents. One of them, known as Jihadi John, is suspected of beheading American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff.A number of escaped and freed hostages initially seized in Syria have spoken of the three Britons who acted as guards. According to an NBC News source, “The Beatles” were harsher than other guards: “They were really rough with them. Whenever the Beatles showed up, there was some kind of physical beating or torture.”Starr spoke of his disgust at the nicknames at the opening of designer John Varvatos’ new store in Conduit Street, London. The former Beatle is the face of the label’s autumn 2014 advertising campaign. It’s bullshit. What they are doing out there is against everything The Beatles stood for.If we stood for anything we never stood for that. The four of us absolutely stood for peace and love. But we are not in control.Ringo StarrEvening Standard newspaper
