A star for Ringo Starr has been unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Starr’s was the 2,401st to be unveiled, and was placed outside the Capitol Records building at 1750 North Vine Street, Hollywood. The 8 February 2010 ceremony also marked the 50th anniversary of the Walk of Fame, an 18-block stretch running along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.The unveiling coincided with Starr’s promotion for his recent album Y Not. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Walk of Fame, Starr’s was the first star to be unveiled at night.This is the start of the next 50 years of stars. I’m proud to be the first one.It’s cool to get one at night. I don’t know about you, but where I live, the stars come out at night.Ringo StarrStarr, accompanied by two bodyguards, joked that The Beatles helped pay for the Capitol Records tower, despite it being built in 1956. He mentioned The Beatles once, saying: “They looked out for me, and I looked out for them. We all supported each other.”Around 500 fans turned out for the ceremony. Starr was accompanied by his wife Barbara Bach, and guests including musicians Joe Walsh, Jim Keltner and Ben Harper, producers Jeff Lynne and Don Was, director David Lynch and actor Noah Wyle.Don Was praised Starr’s drumming style, humming songs including Something and A Day In The Life during a speech.I don’t think it’s out of line to say that Ringo’s musicality, his groove and his spirit are absolutely essential components of all those great Beatle records.Don WasThe Hollywood Walk of Fame was conceived by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1953 in an attempt to revive the glamour of the area at a time when it was in decline.The Walk of Fame also includes stars for John Lennon and George Harrison, as well as one for The Beatles.
