Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey RoadProducer: George MartinA version of Ted Daffan’s song I’m A Fool To Care, newly arranged by Klaus Voormann, was begun on this day for Ringo Starr’s Sentimental Journey album. It was also Starr’s fifth wedding anniversary, following his marriage to Maureen Cox on 11 February 1965. The song had been a 1954 hit for Les Paul with Mary Ford. Voormann conducted a 15-piece orchestra during the first part of the day’s session, which lasted from 2.30-5.30pm.The line-up included brass, woodwind, bass, drums, and piano, the latter played by Billy Preston. The best takes were 19, 20 and 21, and an edit from the three was assembled between 5.30 and 6.30pm. The result was also known as take 19.Starr overdubbed and double-tracked his lead vocals between 6.30 and 9pm, and from then until 10pm a stereo mix was made. Voormann then added an acoustic guitar part between 10 and 11.15pm, and another stereo mix was before work stopped at 11.45pm.A tape reduction mix was made on 17 February, the same day that a 15-piece string ensemble was overdubbed onto the song.
