Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey RoadProducer: George MartinEngineer: Geoff EmerickThe Beatles completed the recording of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds during this session, which began at 7pm and ended at 3.30am the following morning. Most of the parts taped on this evening were varispeeded to make them sound faster and higher-pitched upon playback. Paul McCartney’s bass guitar and George Harrison’s lead guitar – performed through a Leslie speaker – were recorded onto track four. This was the only one taped at normal speed. On tracks two and three John Lennon performed two lead vocal overdubs, with harmonies by McCartney, onto tracks two and three. These were recorded at 45 and 48.5 cycles per second respectively.Eleven mono mixes were made towards the end of the session, although none were used. New ones were made on 3 March 1967.
