Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey RoadProducer: George MartinEngineer: Geoff EmerickThe recording of Good Day Sunshine, which had begun on the previous day, was completed on this day during an afternoon session. A reduction mix was made first, to allow more instruments and vocals to be added. Ringo Starr then recorded crash cymbals and drums, while Paul McCartney simultaneously added another piano part, and John Lennon and George Harrison clapped their hands during the final verse and chorus.George Martin then recorded a piano solo onto track four. This was recorded with the tape machine running faster than usual, at 56 cycles per second as opposed to the normal 50, so that it was both slower and lower upon playback. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison also added extra vocals for the coda.Six mono mixes of Good Day Sunshine were made at the end of the session, which finished at the relatively early time of 8pm. None of the mixes were used, however, and new ones were made on 22 June 1966.
